First article

The Academy Awards took place last night, and though it had many winners the movie, Slumdog Millionaire, stole the show. The movie brought in eight oscars in. An expected win that made everyone extremely happy was for best supporting role in a movie went to Heath Ledger. It was an emotional night for all who was in attendance and it was certainly a night to remember. Especially for the cast and crew of Slumdog Millionaire.
The reason that I chose this article was because the Academy Awards is like the super bowl for actors and actresses. Millions of viewers tune into to watch to see if their favorite movie or actor wins the prominent Oscar. The Academy Awards was on the network ABC, and the ratings are definitely needed. Ratings are extremely important so to cover a story like the Academy Awards people are going to tune in and listen, or read about it to see who the winners are.
“Ratings exert powerful influences on programming decisions” (pg 47). When it comes to the Academy Awards they will have a large audience, which means large ratings. It is good for the network the show. It's a win win for everyone because everyone is then happy.
